{"id":15,"date":"2012-04-19T13:29:41","date_gmt":"2012-04-19T11:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theband.at\/?p=15"},"modified":"2012-04-19T13:29:41","modified_gmt":"2012-04-19T11:29:41","slug":"building-the-perfect-nas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dubidu.io\/?p=15","title":{"rendered":"building the perfect NAS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently bought a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.de\/NSA210-DLNA-Mediaserver--Daten--Storagecenter-Festplatte\/dp\/B002NWEMVQ\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1334834951&amp;sr=8-1\">Zyxel NSA 210<\/a> NAS, which, truth be told, really really sucks. No telnet, No ssh, you can only administer it via a rather slow and cumbersome web interface, that takes all of my patience just to copy all the music I have to the folder I wish to.<\/p>\n<p>I shortly experimented with using an<a href=\"http:\/\/zyxel.nas-central.org\/wiki\/FFP-stick\"> FFP stick<\/a>, but the system wasn&#8217;t that stable, leaving me unable to login to the web interface after a couple of days use for more than once.<\/p>\n<p>So, I decided to get rid of it, and finding QNAP and Synology a little expensive for my liking I found I could build my own NAS. The ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/de\/de\/motherboards\/desktop-motherboards\/desktop-board-d425kt.html\">Intel D425 KT<\/a> Desktop board &#8211; Atom processor, 10W TDP, passive cooling, 50\u20ac, yes!<\/li>\n<li>The 1,5 GB Samsung HD that I have in my Zyxel<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cartft.com\/de\/catalog\/il\/761?ci=7\">picoPSU <\/a>80W power supply<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tp-link.com\/en\/products\/details\/?model=TG-3269\">TP-Link Gigabit NIC<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 GB SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Total cost will be about 110\u20ac\u00a0&#8211; on par with the small QNAPs &#8211; but I can install the OS of MY choice, Ubuntu Server, Fedora, Debian 6&#8230;. even Win Server if I wanted to. Eat that run-of-the-mill NAS!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to put all that in a soapbox for some gritty industrial good-looks.
